If you’re always having an issue in your kitchen, it’s probably not for lack of effort. It can be difficult to keep everything organized and clean when you’re constantly cooking, hosting, and entertaining.
Yes, it’s important to be organized and have a clean space, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend hours every day cleaning it. Here’s a shortlist of common kitchen issues and their solutions that will help you in the long run.
1) Cupboards Are Overflowing
If your cupboards are overflowing with ingredients, it’s time to rework your organization system. Make sure that all of your kitchen gadgets are stored in cabinets and not just on the countertops. If you have a lot of plastic containers that contain similar items, try organizing them by type.
Clear out the cabinets and toss anything that is expired or that you don’t use regularly. Also, put all of your pots and pans in one spot so they are not scattered throughout the house. If you have a pantry, use it. If not, make a list of the items you always have on hand and place them in a closet or drawer where you can easily get to them.

2) Issues With the Taps
The taps allow you to dispense water, hot or cold, as well as to wash dishes and prepare other hot items. If you’ve experienced problems with your taps, it’s probably time to get them fixed or buy a new set.
The most common problem is that you have a dripping faucet or tap. This can happen for a number of reasons from worn-out rubber components to broken plastic pipes, faulty seals, or even a build-up of mineral deposits. The best way to fix this issue is to contact a professional plumber to check your pipes and fixtures. They will also be able to repair any issues before they become problematic.
Another common issue with taps is that they’re just worn out. Fortunately, this is an easy fix. You can swap out your old taps for a new set of handles that are designed to stay on cast iron fittings. Fortunately, most issues with your taps can be solved with a bit of effort.
3) Old Kitchen Surfaces
The kitchen is the heart of the home and having it clean and organized is key. Let’s get rid of that crusted-on food on your stovetop and your counters and clean off those old, warped, or stained surfaces.
Old countertops can be a real pain because they are so hard to keep clean. Countertops made of Formica, Corian, or other similar materials are porous and can easily become dingy if they are not regularly cleaned. Instead, opt for options such as laminate countertops. They are easy to clean and maintain, and they don’t seem to dull as fast as other countertops.

4) Not Enough Light
Not enough light in your kitchen layout can make it feel like the dark ages. You can’t even see how dirty your countertops are! The first step is to add additional light fixtures to the space. Not only will this help illuminate the room, but it will make it feel more spacious as well.
You can be more creative with the lighting and you could use floor lighting, wall lights, downlights or LED light strips to add some character and life to your room.
Natural light can be a bit tricky to add but there are some great products on the market that can help you achieve bright, even lighting without installing a bunch of expensive fixtures. It’s an important common kitchen problem that makes the world of difference in that part of the house when you’re with your family.
5) Growing More Herbs
If you’re like most people, you probably don’t have much experience growing your own herbs. The good news is that it’s easy. If you have a kitchen with a sunny window, you can easily grow a good amount of herbs. It may be a slow process but just be sure to use potting soil that is specially designed for growing herbs. Herbs such as mint, basil, coriander, thyme and chimes grow very well on the windowsill with the natural light and heat.
If you don’t have a sunny window, a grow light can be used to help your herbs thrive and grow to a respectable size. The great thing about growing your own herbs is that you can choose what you want to grow.
